Police in Pavlodar have launched a series of raids aimed at curbing livestock theft, halting the illegal sale of meat and uncovering sanitary violations, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, police officers working alongside veterinary inspectors checked retail outlets as well as possible routes for transporting livestock and meat products. The raid teams paid particular attention to whether livestock and raw meat were being moved legally along the region's highways.

"Ten mobile checkpoints have been set up on country roads and at entry points. Vehicles were inspected, cargoes were checked against veterinary accompanying documents, and animals were checked for ear tags and carcasses for brands. At the same time, raids were carried out at places of mass trade, including markets, where the legality of the origin of the meat on sale was examined. As a result, two veterinary violations were identified, and the materials have been sent to the relevant authority according to its competence," said Askhat Mukushev, head of the criminal police of the Pavlodar city police department.

In addition, district inspectors held preventive talks with farm owners, herders and owners of private households. They were reminded of the importance of branding and tagging livestock, strengthening pens and avoiding free grazing, which creates conditions for theft.
