A district criminal court in Pavlodar has sentenced a former probation service inspector accused of taking a 400,000 tenge bribe from a convicted offender, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the verdict, police detained the convicted man on August 10 for driving without a license. The probation inspector was then required to act, but did nothing. Two weeks later the man under supervision was behind the wheel again, this time also intoxicated.
The court ordered the driver arrested for 15 days, and after his release he went to see his inspector, who was supposed to issue him a warning.
“Ignoring the obligations imposed on him, namely the duty to draw up a warning and send a submission to the court on replacing the unserved part of the sentence of restriction of liberty with imprisonment in respect of persons who maliciously violate the procedure for serving their sentence, he announced the need to transfer to him funds in the amount of 400,000 tenge for unlawful inaction, expressed in not drawing up a warning and not sending a submission to the court,” the verdict of the Pavlodar district criminal court says.
A few days later the probation service inspector received the money in his office, after which he was detained by officers of the Department of the National Security Committee. He did not deny his guilt and asked not to be deprived of liberty.
After reviewing the case materials, the court imposed a penalty in the form of a 12 million tenge fine.
