Law enforcement officers in Pavlodar have detained six suspects accused of extorting money under threats of physical violence. The total damage inflicted on the victims exceeded 3 million tenge, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the press service of the Pavlodar Region Police Department, officers from the organized crime unit shut down the activities of a group suspected in a series of extortion cases.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, three victims have been identified. According to preliminary data, the total material damage caused to them exceeds 3 million tenge.
"It was established that over the course of a month, the suspects demanded money from Pavlodar residents, accompanying their demands with threats of physical violence," the Pavlodar Region Police Department said.
As a result of the operation, officers identified and detained six suspects. Five of them have been placed in a temporary detention facility.
"Criminal cases have been opened over the extortion. The necessary investigative actions are currently being carried out, and all circumstances of the incident are being established. The possible involvement of the detainees in other similar crimes is also being checked," said Gabit Kabdrakhmanov, head of the organized crime unit of the Pavlodar Region Police Department.
In addition, law enforcement officers released operational video footage. "Police, get down!" special forces soldiers shout during the detention.
