The total volume of Kazakhstan's pension savings stood at 28.3 trillion tenge as of October 1, 2026, down 0.6% for the month from 28.47 trillion tenge in September, infohub.kz reports.

Despite the monthly decline, the total rose 10% over the year, or by roughly 2.6 trillion tenge, according to the Unified Accumulative Pension Fund (UAPF). Net investment income credited to contributors' accounts since the start of the year totaled 882.28 billion tenge.

The UAPF is more than a large savings pool: the fund regularly makes pension payments to contributors. Over the first nine months of 2026, total payments exceeded 1.4 trillion tenge. Of that, 564.40 billion tenge went to transfers to insurance organizations, 490.04 billion tenge to lump-sum payments for housing and medical treatment, and 223.61 billion tenge to age-based payments (monthly pensions), averaging 39,028 tenge a month.

In addition, inheritance payments totaled 77.26 billion tenge, payments tied to permanent relocation from Kazakhstan 37.30 billion tenge, funeral payments 7.14 billion tenge, and payments to people with disabilities 2.62 billion tenge.

As a result, the largest share of pension savings was transferred to insurance organizations, exceeding withdrawals for housing and treatment, monthly pensions from the fund and all other types of payments. Insurance organizations are life insurance companies through which Kazakhstanis can arrange a pension annuity and receive lifetime payments.

As for lump-sum payments for housing and treatment, they fell sharply because a new methodology for setting pension savings thresholds, which doubled them, has been in effect in Kazakhstan since June 2026.
