Last night, residents of Kazakhstan witnessed an impressive astronomical event—the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Many Kazakhs hurried to share photos taken on the night of August 12-13 on social media, reports infohub.kz.
Astronomers had predicted the peak of Perseid activity for this period. Experts noted that this year's conditions for observing the meteor shower were particularly favorable. Kazakhs were advised to watch the phenomenon after midnight until dawn, choosing a location away from urban development to avoid artificial light interference. Additionally, the Perseid peak occurred shortly after the new moon, so moonlight was not expected to interfere.
On the night of August 13, social media users began actively sharing their experiences of trips to nature to observe the rare event. Many wrote that such a moment is best shared with loved ones.
Particularly successful were the shots taken by residents of Astana, who specifically traveled outside the city. Some managed to capture the meteor shower on video. Some users jokingly compared the powerful meteor stream to the Autobots from the Transformers universe.
Impressive photos were also shared by those who observed the phenomenon from the Assa Plateau in the mountains of Almaty. Users from the village of Kabanbay Batyr in the Akmola Region also posted pictures of the meteor shower.
