Primary disability in Kazakhstan increased by 2.3% in the first eight months of 2026, according to statistics from medical and social expertise. The causes of disability differ between adults and children, but growth was recorded in both categories, the website infohub.kz reports.
Since the start of the year, 38,481 people have been granted disability status. A year earlier, the figure for the same period stood at 37,620. Disability was established for 27,509 adults (27,317 in 2025) and 10,956 children under 18 (10,303 in 2025).
The intensive rate of primary disability per 10,000 population reached 11.6, up from 11.3 a year earlier, an increase of 0.3 points.
Cancer in first place
Malignant neoplasms lead the structure of primary disability at 30% (27.4% in the same period of 2025). Diseases of the circulatory system rank second at 25.3% (26.1%). Injuries of all sites are third at 6.9%, compared with 7.8% a year earlier.
Mental disorders show growth
Among children, mental disorders rank first at 42.1% (32.6% in 2025). Congenital anomalies are second at 17.5% (22.4% in 2025), and diseases of the nervous system third at 14.6% (17.3%).
At the same time, the number of children recognized as persons with disabilities due to mental disorders rose from 3,360 to 4,615, an increase of 37.4%.
As of September 1, Kazakhstan has more than 760,600 people with disabilities, including 637,500 adults and 124,000 children.
