Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras has announced the discovery of hydrocarbons in an exploration well off the coast of Amapá state in northern Brazil, reports infohub.kz.
According to the company's statement, the deposits were found in a well being drilled in block FZA-M-59, located on the deep-water shelf of Amapá, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin on Brazil's equatorial margin.
The Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) is located approximately 175 kilometers from the coast of Amapá state, at a depth of 2,886 meters. The release notes that further evaluation work is being carried out in compliance with all safety requirements for the environment and people.
Petrobras emphasizes that activities in block FZA-M-59 are aligned with the company's strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves through exploration in frontier areas, thereby supporting Brazil's energy demand during the transition to other energy sources.
The Brazilian company is the operator of block FZA-M-59 and holds a 100% stake in the area.
