A BMW driver in Petropavl has been held administratively liable for drifting on airport grounds, though he denied any wrongdoing, infohub.kz reports.
According to the official Telegram channel of the courts of North Kazakhstan Region, a specialized court for administrative offences in Petropavl heard the case against the driver.
The court established that on 27 September 2026, at around 6 p.m., while driving a BMW on the grounds of Қызыл-Жар airport, he showed disrespect for others and disrupted public order and the peace of individuals by taking corners using a controlled-skid technique (drifting).
The driver denied guilt, explaining that he had used the airport grounds to hone his cornering skills with the controlled-skid technique as he sought to move from amateur motorsport into the professional ranks. Believing the video of his drift looked aesthetically pleasing, he posted it on Instagram.
In hearing the case, the court gave a legal assessment of the man's actions, taking into account the nature of the offence, the circumstances in which it was committed and the requirements of current legislation.
Following its review, the court found the driver guilty of an administrative offence under Part 1 of Article 434 of Kazakhstan's Administrative Offences Code and imposed a penalty of 15 days' arrest.
The court's ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
