Workers at the construction site of an inclusive center in Petropavlovsk continue to unearth human remains. Bones, skulls, fragments of wooden coffins, nails and crosses are emerging from the ground during excavation work. Some skeletons are almost fully intact, and according to eyewitnesses, the finds include the remains of children, reports infohub.kz.
In one video, an excavator operator says workers have already discovered several coffins. They are collecting the bones by hand into bags.
"I accidentally opened a coffin today. It's not the only one. With my help, the guys are pulling out a fifth coffin. Lord, forgive us. A bag stuffed with bones. Coffin upon coffin here. That's how many bags we've collected in a day. The guys are doing all this by hand. Found a bone, a skull, found a skull. I need to get drunk today so I don't dream about it," the crane operator comments in his video.
According to the Halyqstan Telegram channel, a Christian cemetery was located on this site more than a century ago. Later, a station for young naturalists operated here. Bones have been found in this area before.
The police department of the North Kazakhstan Region told Kursiv that police have launched an investigation.
"A case has been registered by police following the discovery of skeletal remains. No signs of a criminal nature have been established. An investigation has been ordered to determine the origin and other circumstances of the discovery of the remains. Final conclusions will be made based on its results," police said.
It was previously reported that human remains were found in Petropavlovsk at the site of an old cemetery during construction.
