A serious road accident occurred at a local hydraulic structure in Petropavlovsk: a KamAZ driver lost control, smashed through a fence, and flew off the roadway, literally dangling over the river, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Astana TV channel, the accident involving the heavy truck happened on the descent at the hydraulic structure. Preliminary data indicates that the driver of the KamAZ, which was carrying sunflower meal, was speeding and lost control, crashing through a metal fence. The vehicle then flew off the roadway and hung over the river.
The driver, as reported in the broadcast, was taken to the city multidisciplinary hospital. After receiving necessary treatment, he was released for outpatient care.
It is noted that this section of the dam is unsafe for traffic — serious accidents have occurred here repeatedly. This is also confirmed by the management of Kazvodkhoz, which operates the dam with a road crossing.
"The issue of heavy truck traffic has been raised repeatedly. Because over the past years we have had several serious accidents. There is a 6-ton per axle limit. Most drivers do not comply with traffic rules or speed limits. We are working on this issue. We conducted a small analysis. We worked with the transport control inspection. According to Kazavtozhol, we have several alternative bypass roads," said Asqat Bakishev, head of the water management facilities operation department at the regional branch of Kazvodkhoz.
Rescuers extracted the heavy truck, and the driver responsible for the accident, who crashed through the fence, will now have to compensate for the material damage caused.
"This driver is preliminarily sober. He has been sent for medical examination. Appropriate measures and a procedural decision will be taken. Also, the organization that suffered damage — the driver will compensate in accordance with the law," said Kairzhan Alimanov, head of the administrative police department of Petropavlovsk.
