Medical specialists in Petropavlovsk managed to save the hand of a 21-year-old man who suffered a severe domestic injury — his hand got caught in a meat grinder, reports infohub.kz.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the regional medical facility, the incident involved a 21-year-old citizen of Kazakhstan. The young man was admitted to the trauma center of the multidisciplinary city hospital in Petropavlovsk with severe injuries to his right hand. According to the patient himself, his hand got caught in a meat grinder.
The city hospital's Instagram account clarified that upon admission, the man's condition was assessed as serious. The injury involved traumatic amputation of part of the fingers, as well as damage to bones, tendons, and soft tissues of the hand.
The patient was urgently hospitalized in the trauma department. The surgical team faced a difficult task — to preserve everything that could still be saved and to restore hand function as much as possible.
"During the operation, doctors fixed the damaged bones with metal structures, performed surgical debridement of wounds, and repaired the damaged tendons. Despite the severity of the injury, the specialists managed to preserve the remaining parts of the fingers and create conditions for further restoration of hand function," the hospital reported.
After surgical treatment, the patient continued recovery in the hospital. In total, the man spent 16 days in the hospital.
