Irish actor Pierce Brosnan has publicly endorsed 36-year-old Briton Callum Turner for the role of James Bond, calling his fellow actor a strong performer with striking presence and charisma, infohub.kz reports.
The former 007, who played the superspy in four films between 1995 and 2002, told Variety that he is now following the casting race closely as an ordinary viewer. Insiders name Turner as one of the leading contenders for the iconic role in the franchise's upcoming 26th film.
Brosnan singled out Turner, with whom he previously shared a set on the drama "The Only Living Boy in New York." The veteran of the spy saga described his younger colleague as an exceptionally strong professional.
He also spoke respectfully of the other finalists in the running, among them Jack Lowden and Josh O'Connor. According to Brosnan, every actor on the shortlist has a distinctive voice, excellent physical form, powerful screen charisma and the potential for a long and successful film career. He added that he sincerely wishes the future agent strength and courage.
Brosnan also praised the choice of director for the new installment: Denis Villeneuve has taken the director's chair, working from a script by "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight. The actor called Villeneuve a visionary whose visual aesthetic and cinematography will make the reboot magnificent.
Producers have promised to name the new Bond before the end of this year, with filming on the spy thriller due to begin in London in 2027.
