The captain of an Air India Airbus A320, operating a flight from Phuket to New Delhi, was under the influence of drugs, according to TASS, citing a publication in The Times of India. Initially, the airline's management attributed the incident to the aircraft entering a zone of turbulence. However, an investigation revealed that the true cause could have been the captain's condition.
According to eyewitnesses, the captain suddenly stopped controlling the aircraft, lost self-control, was unable to perform his duties, and required urgent assistance, which was provided by the flight attendants. As a result, the airliner began a sharp descent, causing injuries to 20 passengers and 4 crew members. 17 of the injured were later hospitalized.
The second pilot helped avoid a crash by taking control of the aircraft and landing it at the destination.
