To mark the 40th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios, an interactive version of the iconic Luxo Jr. lamp from its opening logo has been unveiled. The new toy is now available in the Disney Store online shop, reports infohub.kz.
The toy responds to movement and sound, moves around on its own, and plays the character's signature sounds. However, it cannot be used as a regular lamp: it does not emit light and runs on batteries.
This decision is linked to the history of relations between Pixar and the Norwegian company Luxo ASA. In 2009, the studio had already released a lamp in the shape of Luxo Jr., but the company sued Pixar. Luxo's products served as the prototype for the lamp that Pixar co-founder John Lasseter created in the 1980s.
Eventually, the parties reached a settlement, after which Disney agreed to stop producing lighting fixtures under the Luxo Jr. brand. Therefore, the new version of the character is an interactive toy, not a desk lamp, as one might expect. It costs 110 euros, or about 60,000 tenge.
Luxo Jr. first appeared in Pixar's short film of the same name in 1986. Later, the character became one of the main symbols of the animation studio.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that Kazakh dolls worth hundreds of thousands of tenge are becoming part of collections around the world.
