An unusual guest room shaped like a giant Poké Ball — the sphere from the Pokémon universe used to catch Pokémon — is being built in Japan's Hokkaido prefecture. The round capsule will sit by a lake surrounded by nature, and inside guests will find a Pokémon-themed interior, according to infohub.kz.
The sphere is being assembled in the city of Tomakomai. It will be three meters in diameter, made from two acrylic hemispheres and a curved window. The design is meant to create the impression that the Poké Ball is opening right in front of the guest.
Entry will be through a curved sliding door. Almost the entire space will be taken up by a specially designed round mattress. The bathroom will use tiles in the color of Snorlax — the Pokémon that, in the anime and games, is constantly asleep.
Guests will also be able to choose interior lighting options dedicated to different Pokémon characters. In this way, the creators aim to combine Hokkaido's natural surroundings with the atmosphere of the animated series.
The project was prepared by the hotel's team of architects in collaboration with the sleep-tracking app Pokémon Sleep. The opening will be timed to the app's third anniversary and the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Notably, ordinary tourists will not be able to book the room at first. The first to stay inside the giant Poké Ball will be the winners of a special contest held to mark the project's launch.
