In Semey, after a gas truck explosion and fire near a car wash, one of two injured individuals is in intensive care. The condition of the 45-year-old police officer is serious but stable, reports infohub.kz.
As stated by Daryn Baktybayev, head of the department at Semey's emergency hospital, the police officer has been diagnosed with second- and third-degree burns, affecting about 25-30% of his body surface.
"His condition is serious but stable. He has been diagnosed with second- and third-degree burns, affecting about 25-30% of his body surface. The second patient has been admitted to the surgical department, and his condition is assessed as moderate," he was quoted as saying by Channel 31.
The second injured person is the gas truck driver. Both men were hospitalized after the incident.
The explosion occurred on the evening of September 22 near a car wash on Sosnovaya Street. According to preliminary data, a gas-air mixture ignited, after which the gas truck exploded. The fire engulfed the one-story car wash building and spread to two neighboring private houses.
One of the houses burned down completely. At the time of the roof collapse, there were no people inside. The second house was partially destroyed.
Eyewitnesses told the TV channel that after the explosion, people began to flee. The cause of the fire is being established, and an examination has been ordered. A working group is calculating the amount of damage caused.
