Four people died in a traffic accident in Zhambyl Region, and social media has been circulating claims that one of the vehicles may have been driven by Saya Auelbekova, a former police officer and well-known combat sports athlete, according to infohub.kz.
According to the Halyqstan Telegram channel, at the entrance to the village of Kostogan in Merken district, an SUV crashed into a Zhiguli, whose driver died at the scene. According to eyewitnesses, the 27-year-old man had gone to pick up his mother, but she did not live to see him. The young man was her only son.
“The driver of the first car was athlete, mother of many children and former officer of the Kostanay Region Police Department Saya Auelbekova. Three passengers of the SUV also died in the accident. As villagers write, one of them is a relative of Auelbekova. The relatives of the deceased fear that the woman will avoid punishment, since she is a former but still a police officer, and demand an objective investigation,” the post says.
A post about the accident also appeared on Threads. “A traffic accident occurred in Merken district, with fatalities; presumably, one of the cars was driven by Saya Auelbekova, a Kazakh police officer (SOBR inspector), mother of five and well-known combat sports athlete, whom Kazakh internet users call ‘batyr ana’,” the post says.
As the Zhambyl Region Police Department told a NUR.KZ correspondent, on September 20, a traffic accident occurred in the village of Kostogan in Merken district, killing 4 people. A criminal case has been opened into the accident.
“According to preliminary data, the driver of a Tank 500 entered the oncoming lane, where she collided with a VAZ-2107. As a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ and 3 passengers of the SUV died,” the department’s press service said.
The driver of the Tank has been hospitalized in the district hospital. “She is not an employee of the internal affairs bodies,” police said. The case has been transferred to the Zhambyl Region Police Department. Investigative actions are ongoing to objectively establish all the circumstances of the incident.
“The progress of the investigation is under the control of the department’s leadership. Based on the results of the investigation, an appropriate procedural decision will be made in accordance with current legislation,” the department concluded.
Meanwhile, a post appeared on Saya Auelbekova’s Instagram page on behalf of her sister, who said the athlete had been in a traffic accident. “My sister was in a serious accident. She is currently in critical condition. She tried to avoid a car that came toward her and as a result was in an accident. I ask you to support her so that five small children do not become orphans,” the post says.
