A scandal has erupted in the Burabay resort area over the mistreatment of animals used for tourist entertainment. The police department of Akmola region has initiated an investigation following a social media post showing emaciated ponies and camels, reports infohub.kz.

A user on the social network Threads, under the handle zhansezimmnn, posted about the poor condition of animals in Borovoye. She drew attention to a pony with "drooping eyes" and a camel that was forced to move despite refusing to walk. "Don't we have a service in Kazakhstan that protects animals? Judging by what I saw, they are clearly being exploited," she wrote.

In response, the Akmola regional police department announced the start of an investigation. "In connection with the published information about improper treatment of animals in the Burabay resort area, an inspection has been ordered, during which the circumstances of the incident will be established, as well as the persons responsible for the keeping and exploitation of the animals," the official statement said. Police added that if violations of the law are found, a legal assessment will be given to the actions of those responsible.

Furthermore, the police department clarified that since the beginning of the year, they have already identified 22 cases of animal cruelty. In all cases, the perpetrators were brought to administrative responsibility.
