In Astana, young teachers have created an unusual portrait of the prominent public figure Akhmet Baitursynov. The work required about 5,000 nails and 600 meters of thread, reports infohub.kz.
According to the city administration, the 3x2 meter installation was made using the String art technique to mark the 154th anniversary of the educator.
The project was conceived by teachers of School-Lyceum No. 48 named after Akhmet Baitursynov. It took 14 days to complete.
“First, using a projector, Baitursynov's image was transferred onto a wooden panel and the contours were outlined. Then about 5,000 nails were hammered into the base, after which the teachers began to weave threads between them, gradually forming the portrait,” the project's authors said.
The teachers note that the work has become not just an artistic installation but part of the school's cultural space. The finished portrait was donated to the school museum.
Now the artwork will introduce students and guests of the school to the personality and legacy of Akhmet Baitursynov through modern art.
