A wildfire broke out in dry vegetation in the North Kazakhstan Region, behind a solid waste landfill near the village of Shakhovskoye. According to preliminary information, the fire has spread across about 6 hectares, the regional Emergency Situations Department reported, according to infohub.kz.
Firefighters have already extinguished the flames in one section. Crews are still battling the fire in two other sections.
A total of 110 personnel and 31 pieces of equipment from the North Kazakhstan Region Emergency Situations Department have been deployed to fight the blaze. An operations headquarters has been set up at the scene and four firefighting sectors have been established.
A fire train from a railway company has also been brought in to help extinguish the fire.
The Emergency Situations Department noted that strong winds are fueling the spread of the fire. The main forces are focused on containing the blaze and protecting nearby settlements and facilities.
According to the HALYQSTAN Telegram channel, thick smoke from the fire has reached Petropavl, with residents complaining of a burning smell and reduced visibility.
The situation remains under the control of the North Kazakhstan Region Emergency Situations Department.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a fire at an active solid waste landfill near the village of Uzynagash in the Almaty Region had been localized. The fire spread across an area of 500 square meters, and 33 personnel and 22 pieces of equipment were deployed to extinguish it.
