A wildfire that engulfed around 5,000 hectares in the Abai Region has been completely extinguished, the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported, according to infohub.kz.
The ministry recalled that the fire involving dry grass and shrubs broke out in the Kazankemir area of the Tarbagatai rural district, in mountainous and hard-to-reach terrain. The landscape severely hampered firefighters' efforts.
The flames spread across an area of about 5,000 hectares. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, aircraft from Kazaviaspas JSC and the aviation service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan carried out 26 water drops with a total volume of 71 tonnes during the firefighting operation.
"Units from the Emergency Situations Departments of the Abai and East Kazakhstan regions, local executive bodies, forestry workers, as well as aircraft from Kazaviaspas JSC and the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan were involved in extinguishing the fire," the ministry said.
No one was injured.
It was previously reported that dry grass and shrubs had caught fire in the Ayagoz district of the Abai Region, in the Kazankemir area of the Tarbagatai rural district, in mountainous, hard-to-reach terrain. The fire spread into the territory of the Tarbagatai State National Nature Park.
