A fire broke out in a nine-story residential building on Sauran Street in Astana's Esil district, prompting rescuers to evacuate residents, infohub.kz reports.
At 11:20, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said rescuers had arrived to extinguish a fire in the nine-story residential building on Sauran Street in the Esil district of Astana.
"Upon arrival of the first units, open burning was observed in a ground-floor apartment and there was heavy smoke. Fire hoses were immediately deployed, and all measures are being taken to fully extinguish the fire. Residents of the building are being evacuated," the press service said.
No information on casualties has been received.
At 11:28, reports emerged that the fire had been contained.
"At the scene, rescuers managed to knock down the open flames and contain the fire. An aerial ladder and a three-section ladder are being used to evacuate residents. Firefighting continues," the Emergency Situations Ministry said.
Later, reports said the fire had been completely extinguished by Ministry of Emergency Situations forces.
"According to updated information, a fire occurred in a tailoring workshop located on the ground floor of the nine-story residential building. The fire area was 50 square meters," the ministry said.
Using a three-section ladder and an aerial ladder, Ministry of Emergency Situations personnel rescued 17 people from the upper floors, including four children. There were no casualties.
