"Practical Magic 2," starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, launched its preview screenings with a take of $3.5 million to $4 million, with showings beginning Thursday at 2 p.m., according to infohub.kz.
Citing Deadline, the film's projected global opening could reach $58 million to $63 million. Domestic forecasts put it at around $40 million, though Warner Bros. offers a more modest estimate of $30 million to $35 million. The movie could add another $18 million to $23 million across 77 international markets.
If those projections hold, the sequel will surpass the entire worldwide gross of the 1998 original — $51.3 million — within its first few days. The opening matters greatly to Warner Bros., which is looking to break a prolonged slump and top the $40 million mark in a debut weekend for the first time in a year.
Interest in the project is fueled by the long-awaited reunion of Bullock and Kidman, as well as support from fans of the original. The first film grew into a cult favorite through television airings and home video — the very thing that drove the decision to launch a sequel 28 years later.
