Britain's Prince William appeared on a popular television show, where he singled out Kazakhstan's success in restoring its saiga antelope population, infohub.kz reports.

Kazakhstan's Embassy in the United Kingdom posted on Instagram a clip from The Graham Norton Show, broadcast on the BBC, in which Prince William spoke about Kazakhstan's experience in conserving the endangered species.

"Saiga antelope were once on the brink of extinction, and now their numbers have again reached enormous levels. And all of this is thanks to the fact that the government of Kazakhstan recognized how important this species is for the country and for nature conservation. And the authorities gave comprehensive support to its protection," the embassy quoted Prince William as saying.

As the source recalls, in 2023 the International Union for Conservation of Nature announced that the saiga antelope was no longer classified as a species on the brink of extinction. The reason was a significant increase in the species' numbers in Kazakhstan.

It was also noted at the time that a comprehensive set of state measures to protect and count the animals had produced substantial results in conserving and restoring the saiga population in the republic — from 21,000 individuals in 2003 to 1,915,000 individuals in 2023.
