In the Burlinsky District of the West Kazakhstan Region, the rights of 1,155 minors aged 16-17 have been restored after prosecutors intervened, granting them a 50% discount on public transport fares, infohub.kz reports.
The violation was uncovered during an analysis of a district maslikhat decision on reduced fares for certain categories of passengers on intracity public transport, excluding taxis. The document did not provide a discount for minors aged 16-17, forcing students in that age group to pay the full fare.
Acting on a prosecutor's order, the maslikhat amended its decision. The fare for a minor passenger in Aksai now stands at 50 tenge.
Other routes in the district have also introduced reduced fares: the cost of travel for minors has been cut by 50%.
The prosecutor's office noted that it continues its work to protect the rights and legitimate interests of minors and to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Astana approved an expansion of the right to free travel for children enrolled in full-time education, including students at private schools. The changes also provided for year-round benefits for children from low-income families, including during school holidays.
