Transport prosecutors in Kazakhstan have prevented the inefficient spending of 9.8 billion tenge that was planned for the repair of national roads. An inspection revealed that sections of one highway were included in another reconstruction project, and the estimate for the second project contained incorrect prices, reports infohub.kz.

The largest savings — 7.1 billion tenge — came from the highway "border of the Russian Federation (towards Samara) – Shymkent." Prosecutors found that certain sections of the medium repair of this road were also part of the planned reconstruction of the "Ulgaisyn – Sekseuil" highway. Thus, the same segments could have been included in two projects at once. After prosecutorial intervention, the scope of work was revised, saving 7.1 billion tenge.

Another case concerns the major repair of the road "Zhetybai – Zhanaozen – Kenderli – border of Turkmenistan." Here, the estimate contained incorrect prices for certain materials and works. After a prosecutors' submission, the cost of work was recalculated, and the project price dropped from 21.6 to 18.9 billion tenge.

In total, only for two road projects, it was possible to prevent the inefficient spending of 9.8 billion tenge. The Main Transport Prosecutor's Office said that oversight of the use of budget funds in the road sector continues.

Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that in Kazakhstan, almost 90% of violations on local roads were not remedied.
