Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain opened their group-stage campaign with a resounding 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava. French winger Ousmane Dembélé scored twice (17', 23'), Spanish forward Ferran Torres netted a hat-trick (31', 47', 57'), and Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz added another (88'). The visitors' lone goal came from Gambian midfielder Suleyman Kamara (59').

Liverpool came from behind to beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 at home. The Spanish side took the lead through Spanish defender Marcos Llorente (17'), but the hosts responded with goals from Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai (40') and Argentine Alexis Mac Allister (50').

Arsenal, who reached the Champions League final last season, edged Napoli 1-0 in Naples, with Norwegian midfielder Martin Ødegaard scoring the only goal (75').
