Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law expanding the list of convicts eligible to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense. This was reported by the website infohub.kz.
Under the new law, the right to military service under contract is granted to citizens convicted of smuggling cash, participating in a gang or criminal organization, and illegal entry into a protected facility. Additionally, contracts can be signed by those convicted of violating safety and anti-terrorist protection rules at fuel and energy facilities, as well as large-scale smuggling of strategic goods, cultural valuables, animals and plants listed in the Red Book, and their derivatives. The list also includes drug smuggling.
The document has been published on the official legal information portal. In addition, Putin signed another law concerning military contracts. It defines the categories of individuals who may be exempt from criminal liability if they were called up for service during mobilization or martial law, or signed a contract during that period, or are already serving in the military during that time.
Earlier, the bill was passed by the State Duma. The document was submitted for consideration by the Russian government a few days prior.
