Eight teenagers have been charged with murder after a 21-year-old man died following an alleged attack at a party in Queensland, Australia. Police say the group had a “preconceived plan” to inflict harm.
The incident occurred on 26 July at a rented Airbnb property in Bahrs Scrub, south of Brisbane. The victim, from Redbank Plains, was found unconscious with severe head injuries and died in hospital six days later.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said the group allegedly arrived at the party armed with various weapons, with the intention of harming people at the address. Several vehicles were destroyed, the property was extensively damaged, and a street was closed.
More than 80 police officers executed 14 search warrants across three police districts. Initially, four teenagers – two 18-year-olds and two 19-year-olds – were charged with murder on 6 August. On Sunday, four more – a 17-year-old and three 18-year-olds – were arrested at short-term accommodation in Morayfield and also charged.
Police have warned that further arrests are possible as the investigation continues. Galpin said: “If we identify more persons involved in this offence, then they will be charged.”
Police liaison officers and community leaders are working to prevent retaliation. Galpin praised the cooperation of local residents, saying it was “nothing short of amazing” and crucial to the investigation.
