Portugal midfielder Rafael Leão has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial departure from the national team, according to infohub.kz.
After the third round of Nations League matches against Denmark, in which Portugal won 4-2, Leão spoke about the situation surrounding Ronaldo. "It's a topic that doesn't concern us. We showed once again that we are a team. I'm sure that Cristiano Ronaldo, at home, is enjoying this victory. I communicate well with him and know what kind of person he is, so I can say: the most important thing is the team. We got three more points, we lead the group, and now we need to rest and prepare for Sunday's match against Norway," Leão was quoted as saying by Championat.
It was previously reported that the number seven shirt, which belonged to Ronaldo in the Portugal national team, is now assigned to Leão.
Recall that Cristiano Ronaldo did not take part in the national team's training after the coach did not field him in the Nations League match. After that, he stated that he had decided to leave the team's camp. Later, the Portuguese Football Federation explained what Ronaldo's unauthorized departure could lead to: he faces disqualification and a fine.
