Charyn Canyon will once again become one of Kazakhstan's most unusual venues: on August 15, the second festival of electronic music and art, ŞUAQ, will take place here, reports infohub.kz.
For one night, the canyon will transform into a space for electronic music and audiovisual performances amidst the natural landscape. The main event of the program will be the Xternal Domain Showcase — the festival's first international curatorial program. Kenyan producer Slikback will bring artists from his label to Kazakhstan, who will perform alongside local musicians.
The lineup includes Edigee, Akmaral Mergen, Slikback, KOLOAH, qoso, Monoconda, TAHAUI, Kuanyshbek Nurgazy, and other performers. Instead of the usual solo sets, the organizers promise b2b performances, live acts, vocal collaborations, and projects featuring live instruments, prepared specifically for ŞUAQ.
The organizers have also prepared a large-scale video mapping on the walls of Charyn Canyon: light projections will turn the rocks into part of the festival stage. After the nighttime program, guests can stay at the campsite and watch the sunrise right in the canyon.
For the return trip, three bus departures are planned. The first bus will leave between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m. for those who want to return to Almaty before the festival ends. The main departure is scheduled for around 6:30 a.m., right after the music program concludes. Another bus will leave at 2:00 p.m. the next day for guests who stay at the campsite and greet the dawn in Charyn Canyon.
