Relieving tension after a hard day by asking your spouse to "walk" on your back is a popular but extremely risky method. Physiotherapist and rehabilitation specialist Vladimir Karasenko explained the consequences of such experiments and what is better than this dangerous ritual, according to infohub.kz.
"As a rehabilitation physician, I can say only one thing about the habit of walking on someone's back to make it 'crack' — it's better not to do it. By stepping on the spine, you create a lever load that it is not designed for," Karasenko explains.
According to the doctor, one awkward movement and instead of a crack you can quickly get a slipped vertebra or ligament injury. That's because a crack does not mean everything has 'fallen into place.'
"If after such walking on your back you feel relief, then most likely your back muscles were simply tight. And the mechanical pressure temporarily relaxed them. But that's not treatment, it's a coincidence," the rehabilitation specialist notes.
He advises that in this case it is better to buy a roller or a ball for the back. They can be used to massage the back safely.
"With their help, let your significant other just give you a proper relaxing massage. It's cheaper and safer. And you won't have to explain to a doctor later how you 'just cracked your back,'" Karasenko emphasizes.
Earlier, Karasenko told what to do if your leg cramps at night, and also explained why the whole body sometimes jerks sharply before sleep.
In addition, the physiotherapist noted earlier that age is not always the cause of pain in joints and muscles. According to him, a person is often to blame for the onset of ailments.
