Real Madrid kicked off their new Spanish league campaign with a comeback victory over Espanyol of Barcelona, reports infohub.kz.
The match, corresponding to the second round of La Liga, took place at the Cornella-El Prat stadium and ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors. For Real Madrid, this was their first match of the season, while Espanyol had already secured a win in the opening round.
Real Madrid's English midfielder Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the 9th minute. The hosts equalized through Spanish midfielder Alex Calatrava in the 30th minute. However, in the 90th minute, Real Madrid's Spanish forward Carlos Espi grabbed the winner, securing three points for his team.
After two rounds, Espanyol sits sixth in the standings with three points. Real Madrid also has three points and moved up to third place. Sevilla leads with six points, followed by Alaves with four.
It is worth noting that the match against Espanyol was Real Madrid's first official game since the return of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho to the helm of the team.
