Real Madrid footballer Raul Asensio has been punished for driving under the influence of alcohol: he has been fined a substantial amount and temporarily banned from driving, reports infohub.kz.
According to RIA Novosti Sport, citing Spanish newspaper Canarias7, the incident occurred on August 16 in the south of Gran Canaria, where the 23-year-old athlete was stopped by police while driving a Porsche. A breathalyzer test showed an alcohol level of 0.90 mg per liter, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.
For drunk driving, the court sentenced Asensio to a fine of 14,400 euros (over 7 million tenge) and a driving ban of 8 months.
In addition, in the coming days the footballer will appear in court on another case related to an incident in 2023. According to the investigation, three Real Madrid youth players recorded an intimate encounter with two women in a hotel on the Canary Islands and subsequently distributed the material without the consent of the participants. At the time of filming, one of the women was 16 years old.
According to case files, Asensio was not present during the encounter, but he requested the video from the other participants, showed it to third parties, and then deleted the file. Spain's prosecutor's office has previously filed an indictment, seeking a 2.5-year prison sentence for Asensio on charges of violating privacy. The other three defendants face up to 4 years and 7 months in prison on charges including distribution of pornographic material involving a minor.
Raul Asensio is a product of Real Madrid's academy, having made his debut for the first team in 2024.
