French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said that the area of burned land has reached 115,000 hectares since the start of the wildfire season, exceeding the previous record of 98,000 hectares, according to the website infohub.kz.
This year, France has experienced extreme heat, which has fueled massive wildfires. President Emmanuel Macron said the country is facing the worst wildfire season since the end of World War II.
Earlier, authorities ordered a full evacuation of people from the Cap Ferret peninsula on the southwestern coast, threatening tens of thousands of residents and tourists. Major wildfires have also hit Spain, and Macron has appealed to other leaders for assistance.
