A major new study has confirmed that regularly eating red meat, processed meat products and drinks high in sugar is directly linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, infohub.kz reports.
According to Medical News Today, researchers analyzed the diets and health data of thousands of participants to assess how different food groups affect metabolism. The findings reinforced evidence that having red meat in the diet significantly increases the likelihood of the disease.
The results show that red and processed meat, such as bacon, sausages and salami, drives inflammation in the body and reduces tissue sensitivity to insulin. Added sugar in drinks and confectionery causes sharp spikes in blood glucose and places a heavy burden on the pancreas. Together, these factors create fertile ground for persistent insulin resistance.
At the same time, the researchers stress that replacing even one portion of red meat or a sugary drink with whole grains, nuts, legumes or water noticeably lowers the risk of developing the disease. Experts recommend rethinking daily eating habits and opting for a diet high in plant fiber.
According to the authors, even small changes in diet can have a lasting positive effect on metabolism and protect the body from dangerous metabolic disorders.
