Kazakhstan will demolish 224 apartment buildings by the end of 2026 under a renovation program. Residents will receive new housing or cash compensation, reports infohub.kz.
The Ministry of Industry and Construction said investors are ready to participate in the program in almost all regions. The exception is Zhambyl region, where no interested developer has been found yet.
Demolition and new construction cannot start solely on government authority. A developer can proceed only after obtaining consent from all apartment owners.
“If even one resident remains, their consent is required. Even if several people are registered in one apartment, consent from all who hold a share in that housing is mandatory,” said Kanat Mynbaev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Construction and Housing and Utilities of the Ministry of Industry and Construction.
He also explained that an exception is possible only when the building poses a threat to life. “As for eviction through court – if the housing poses a threat to life, then a court decision on eviction will be made,” Mynbaev noted.
