In the first seven months of 2026, Kazakhstan saw a decrease in road traffic accidents and casualties. The number of accidents fell by 4%, fatalities by 16%, and injuries by 6%, according to infohub.kz.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs attributes the reduction to preventive measures and digital monitoring on the roads.
During the period, police suppressed over 8.7 million traffic violations. For serious offenses, 18,000 drivers were deprived of their driving licenses, and another 15,500 people were subjected to administrative arrest.
More than 31,000 automatic violation recording systems operate on the country's roads. They helped detect 5.7 million violations. Cameras also allow monitoring of technical inspections and insurance policy availability.
Preventive measures are yielding results in other areas as well. As reported by Baglanbek Aitpayev, Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 96,600 crimes were registered in Kazakhstan in 2025, which is 6% less than the previous year.
"In the first half of 2026, the crime rate decreased by another 10%. At the same time, the number of offenses in public places dropped by 19%," he noted.
Authorities attribute these results to a shift from reacting to crimes to preventing them, and to a wider use of digital technologies.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan named the main cause of road accidents in the country. According to the ministry, 91% of all accidents occur due to gross violations of traffic rules.
