The Almaty Oncology Center has introduced a robotic pharmacy system that automates the storage, preparation, and dispensing of medications, ensuring control at every stage, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, each drug receives an individual digital code, allowing its path from arrival at the pharmacy to delivery to the patient to be tracked. This minimizes the risk of errors in preparation and dosage adherence. Drug dilution is carried out in a closed, sealed environment, which is especially important for oncology services, where precision and safety directly affect treatment quality.
The technology is being introduced amid growing volumes of oncology care in Almaty. Currently, more than 38,000 patients are registered, and over 27,000 people undergo treatment annually. Over the past eight years, the volume of medical care at the center has increased 2.5-fold, and the five-year survival rate has risen from 46% to 75%.
