Midfielder Rodri, who has moved from Manchester City to Barcelona, has published an emotional farewell message to the English club's fans, reports infohub.kz.
The 30-year-old Spaniard has signed a contract with the Catalan club until June 30, 2030. The transfer fee is estimated to exceed 75 million euros including bonuses.
Rodri spent seven years at City, winning numerous trophies, including the Champions League and four Premier League titles.
"Dear City fans! In my opinion, saying goodbye is one of the hardest things in the world. But I'll try. Words cannot express how much gratitude, love, and support my family and I have felt over these years. I remember how I felt when I arrived at a big club like Manchester City. It was a moment of pure joy. I knew I was joining a top team. But I couldn't imagine the legacy we would create, winning trophies, gaining fans, love, and respect around the world. We became an example, inspiring the next generation, not only because of success but also because of the journey we took. The fans were with us every step of the way," Rodri said.
He also noted that during his time at City, he played with many outstanding footballers, singling out Josep Guardiola, who has been in charge of the team all these years. Rodri emphasized that the Spanish coach taught him a lot.
The footballer added that he will keep many vivid memories and is proud to be the first Manchester City player to win the Ballon d'Or.
"Even in tough moments, you didn't let me give up. From the moment I first stepped onto the pitch, I felt strong love. I realized how special the fans are here. City not only helped me grow as a player. It allowed me to improve as a person. So, City fans, the time has come to say goodbye. Thank you to you, the club, the staff, and my teammates. This adventure wouldn't have been the same without all of you. My heart will always be blue," Rodri concluded.
The Spanish footballer is the winner of the 2024 Ballon d'Or. With the national team, he won the 2024 European Championship and the 2026 World Cup, being named the most valuable player in both tournaments.
