Thousands of Cristiano Ronaldo fans, spurred by press reports of the footballer's upcoming wedding to Georgina Rodriguez, gathered at the cathedral on the Portuguese island of Madeira, only to witness the marriage of a completely different couple, reports infohub.kz.

According to Sports.ru, after the announcement of Ronaldo and Rodriguez's engagement, the media spread information that the ceremony would take place on August 8 at the Madeira Cathedral. On the appointed day, a huge crowd gathered outside the church: fans and curious onlookers hoped to see the famous couple's ceremony.

When a vintage Rolls-Royce with the bride pulled up to the cathedral entrance, the crowd was convinced their moment had come. People with phones in hand surrounded the car, some even wearing Ronaldo shirts and masks with his face. However, when the bride stepped out, one of the guests tried to stop the ensuing frenzy, exclaiming, "This is not Georgina."

It soon became clear that the couple getting married inside were Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, a Madeiran pair living in France. Friends and relatives of the newlyweds had to literally push through the crowd to get inside. The cathedral's priest, Marcos Gonçalves, confirmed that the event had nothing to do with Ronaldo. Fortunately, the footballer's fans did not disrupt the ceremony.
