Portugal's football federation disciplinary council has ruled on the incident involving national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, banning him from matches for 30 days and fining him €255. The case stemmed from the player's unauthorized departure from Portugal's training camp in Copenhagen in September, infohub.kz reports.
Portuguese outlet A Bola reported the disciplinary council's decision. According to the publication, the captain faced a suspension of up to six months, but the punishment was considerably lighter.
Ronaldo will be available for Portugal's next match, scheduled for November 14, the outlet noted: the incident occurred back in September, so the 30-day suspension will have expired by then.
Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo skipped a Portugal training session after the coach left him out of a Nations League match. The player then said he had decided to leave the national team camp.
The Portuguese football federation later explained what Ronaldo's unauthorized departure from the squad could mean for him: the player faced a ban and a fine.
It also emerged recently that Portugal's No. 7 shirt was given to another player after the scandal involving Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus later said Ronaldo could return to the team whenever he wanted.
Ronaldo later gave details of his conflict with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus, saying the manager had broken his word twice.
The Portuguese player's mother, Dolores Aveiro, said her son is not appreciated at home.
