Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo did not take part in the national team's training session after the head coach left him on the bench in a Nations League match, infohub.kz reports.
The reason was the player's dissatisfaction: on 27 September he stayed on the bench for the entire match against Norway, which ended 2:1. For the first time in 18 years, Ronaldo did not take the field in an official match for the national team. He then failed to appear at training, which caused tension within the squad.
According to A Bola, the coach told Ronaldo he would bring him on for the final 30 minutes of the match. The player had already been warming up, but never made it onto the pitch. After the final whistle he went straight to the dressing room, making no secret of his disappointment and not thanking the fans.
Head coach Jorge Jesus and Ronaldo held a meeting to settle the conflict. It is noted that the conversation "left positive feelings."
