More than 40% of American gamers who canceled their Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, or Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions cited financial reasons as the main factor behind their decision, according to data from analytics firm Circana, as reported by ChannelNews and infohub.kz.
Users are being forced to give up paid services due to shrinking personal budgets, even though they generally remain satisfied with the quality of the services and the game catalogs offered.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers are feeling the most pressure. Among those who dropped this service, 50% pointed to a lack of funds, up from 40% earlier this year. For PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the share of gamers dissatisfied with constant subscription price hikes has grown to 40%.
Circana analyst Matt Piscatella emphasized that these data do not indicate a general sharp increase in cancellations. They merely reflect the key motivations of people who have already decided to opt out. Video game makers must find a balance between increasing revenue and keeping services accessible to players.
