US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the question of Ukraine joining NATO is not currently under consideration, and Washington is focused on ending the conflict, according to infohub.kz.

According to NUR.KZ, citing RIA Novosti, the top US diplomat made the statement during a visit to Iceland while answering journalists' questions about the prospects of Ukraine joining NATO.

"Right now, the question of Ukraine's NATO membership, as you know, is not on the agenda," the US secretary of state said.

He added that the United States is currently focused on achieving an end to the conflict in Ukraine. Rubio believes, however, that the situation is not developing in the right direction.

"Of course, we are monitoring developments there and see that the movement is not in the right direction," Marco Rubio said.

Recall that back in 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was applying for accelerated NATO membership.

And recently, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, now ambassador to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that Ukraine will never join NATO.
