A specialized inter-district criminal court in Kostanay Region has tried two residents of Rudny accused of murdering a 19-year-old man in the stairwell of a residential building, the website infohub.kz reports.

The court's press service said the crime was committed at night on January 23, 2026, in the stairwell of a building on P. Korchagina Street in Rudny. The tragedy was preceded by an earlier conflict: the victim, identified in case materials as U., had demanded 200,000 tenge from the defendant.

According to the court, defendant A., acting with intent to kill victim U., inflicted numerous stab wounds on him. The injuries were incompatible with life, and the victim died at the scene.

At the same time, a minor, B., was one floor below and knew for certain that the murder had been committed, but did not report the crime to law enforcement. After the incident, the defendants left the scene and fled to the city of Kokshetau.

In passing sentence, the court recognized the victim's unlawful conduct, which triggered the criminal offense, as a mitigating circumstance. A. was sentenced to 9 years in prison, to be served in a medium-security correctional facility. The court sentenced the minor B. to 2 years and 8 months in prison, to be served in a medium-security correctional facility for minors.

In addition, the court ordered convicted A. to pay compensation for moral damages to each victim — the father and brother of the deceased.
