American serial record-breaker David Rush from Idaho has set a new world record by running a marathon in 125 shirts worn simultaneously. The extreme run nearly ended in heatstroke, reports infohub.kz.
It took Rush and his team about 30 minutes to put on all the layers before the start of the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon in Boise. The total weight of the shirts exceeded 20 kilograms, and his torso expanded so much that he couldn't lower his arms along his body.
The run became his toughest challenge yet. Just a kilometer into the race, he began to overheat severely. Due to poor circulation and the pressure of the clothing, his hands swelled, he developed back pain, and symptoms of heatstroke set in. His support team continuously poured water on him and cooled him with ice.
Despite physical exhaustion, Rush finished in 5 hours, 54 minutes, and 50 seconds. With this feat, he once again draws attention to promoting education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
