Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina could cut the gap to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka to just four points if she wins the Toronto tournament, reports infohub.kz.
According to the publication, the Kazakhstani needs to win the prestigious WTA 1000 event in Canada. On the eve, Rybakina defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova in three sets, after which she answered a question about the possible achievement.
"I try not to think about it because I still have many matches to win. On the grass swing I didn't play as well as I wanted. Right now, the most important thing for me is to improve my game. We worked hard in the last couple of weeks before the North American tournaments. The most important thing for me is to see improvement in my game. Some things are working at this tournament, but I still haven't reached my best form. I try not to think about rankings and points. I just play one match at a time. We'll see how far I can go," Rybakina said.
