Kazakhstan's top-ranked women's singles player Elena Rybakina has learned her opponent for the US Open semifinals, reports infohub.kz.
In the final women's quarterfinal, American Coco Gauff faced Russian Mirra Andreeva, ranked fourth and fifth in the world, respectively.
The match went the full three sets, with the second decided by a tiebreak. The American came from behind to win 2:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:2. The players spent 2 hours and 19 minutes on court.
In the semifinals, Gauff will face Rybakina. The match is scheduled for the night of September 10-11 Kazakhstan time. The other final spot will be contested by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and American Jessica Pegula, ranked first and third in the world, respectively. The US Open results are already guaranteed to bring significant changes to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. Regardless of the tournament's outcome, Rybakina will become the world No. 1, displacing Sabalenka.
