Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina has reached the US Open final for the first time in her career, where she will face Aryna Sabalenka for the title, the website infohub.kz reports.
In the semifinals of the 2026 US Open, the second seed took on American Coco Gauff, the world No. 4 and 2023 US Open champion. The match proved as tight as could be, lasting all three sets and ending in a come-from-behind win for the Kazakh player, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The two spent 2 hours 9 minutes on court. Over that time, Rybakina hit five aces, double-faulted twice and converted four of six break points.
In the title match, the Kazakh will face Aryna Sabalenka, champion of the two previous editions of the American hard-court major. In her own semifinal, the Belarusian player proved stronger than American Jessica Pegula, winning 7-5, 6-2.
With the season's final Grand Slam tournament, Rybakina will become world No. 1. She will displace none other than Sabalenka from the top of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
The US Open final will be played overnight from September 12 to 13, starting at 01:00 Kazakhstan time. Rybakina has previously won two Grand Slam tournaments — Wimbledon 2022 and the Australian Open 2026.
